03/31/16 - Gramado / Porto Alegre!
 

We started our day in Gramado with a visit to a car museum. After admiring the spectacular cars we went to a lake called Lago Negro (Black Lake). The lake looked beautiful surrounded by flowers of all different shades of pink and purple and the greenest trees I’ve seen here in Brasil. After visiting the cute artesan shops near the lake, some of us walked around it and others rented swan shaped peddle boats to ride around the lake. We went for a wonderful lunch in downtown Gramado and afterwards passed a few hours looking in the cute little shops and eating chocolates from the many chocolate shops that Gramado is known for. Gramado is a city very different from the rest of Brasil. The European influence in Gramado is very obvious in all the architecture. The temperature today was also very nice- much cooler than the cities that most of us are living in here. After walking around downtown for a bit, we travelled for two hours to get to Porto Alegre where we met a bunch of other exchange students that will be travelling with us for the next part of the trip. Dinner was in a churrascaria, which is a typical meal in Brazil with rice and beans and waiters constantly offering you barbecued meat, sausages, and chicken directly from the spit onto your plate. There was live music while we were eating and afterwards there was a show with typical styles of dance from Argentina. We are all very excited to go to Uruguay tomorrow and have the chance to see yet another culture!

31/03/16 - Gramado / Porto Alegre!

A gente começou nosso dia em Gramado visitando um museu de carros antigos - Hollywood Dream Cars. Tinha muito carro bacana. Depois, fomos para um lago chamado de Lago Negro. O lago ficou muito lindo cercado de flores coloridas e arvores extremamente verdes. Visitamos as lojinhas perto do lago antes de andar ao redor do lago ou pegar um pedalinhos na forma de um cisne. Então, a gente almoçou no centro de Gramado. Passamos um tempo conhecendo as lojas e comendo chocolates das Chocolaterias pelos quais Gramado é conhecido. Gramado é uma cidade muito diferente do resto do Brasil. Deu para ver a influência europeia no arquitetura. A diferença no clima foi bem gostosa também. A gente viajou duas horas de ônibus para chegar em Porto Alegre e conhecer os outros intercambistas que vão viajar conosco por essa parte da viagem. Jantamos em uma churrascaria enquanto assistíamos um show de dança nos estilos típicos da Argentina. Nós estamos animados para conhecer o Uruguai amanhã!

Gramado & Canela - Tri-legal! / So cool!

Gramado & Canela - So cool!

Today the group went to see the city of Canela and Gramado with it´s sorroundings. We started out by going to a park close to Canela, where we saw a waterfall, and went discovering the park in smaller groups. When the group was ready to move on, they went to a little castle which was heavily influenced by the German culture. Here some of the students bought ¨Apfelstrudel¨ which is a german apple-pastry – especially the German students felt like home! After a kick of German culture, the group was ready to move on to Canela downtown to eat lunch and have some time to see the city. There the students split into smaller groups, and went on to find their own places to eat. The boys in the group went together to a small restaurant, and finally understood the Danish expression ¨hygge¨ when a nice food-mom took care of them, and served them really good food, followed by coffee and desserts. In the early afternoon the group assembled again, and went on to a museum with wax-figures of famous people, and took some funny pictures. Finally they went to Santa´s city, and had a great time experiencing the christmas-spirit all over again.

Gramado & Canela - Tri-Legal!

Hoje o grupo foi visitar a cidade de Canela e Gramado. Nós começamos num parque que fica bem perto de Canela, onde nós tivemos uma vista incrível com uma cachoeira e tivemos tempo para descobrir o parque.
Quando o grupo se encontrou fomos visitar mais outros lugares. Visitamos o castelinho de Canela que é muito alemão. Alguns intercambistas comeram "Apfelstrudel" que é uma comida alemão. Por isso e alguns outros fatores os alemães se sentiram em casa.
Depois de muita cultura alemã, a gente foi para o almoço e visitamos a cidade. Especialmente os meninos encontraram um restaurante maravilhoso. Os quatros entenderam a expressão ¨hygge¨ (dinamarquês) quando uma mulher cuidou deles e serviu comida boa, café e sobremesa. À tarde o grupo foi para um museu de cera com figuras de pessoas famosas e tiraram fotos muito engraçadas. Finalmente eles foram pra a Aldeia de Papai Noel e tivemos um tempo bem bacana com o espirito de natal e da neve.

Gramado!

03/29/16 - Gramado!

In this beautiful day the whole group got up early and after putting the bags on the bus went to the location of the breakfast to take another delicious breakfast with fresh fruit, assorted pastries, juices, hot drinks and other delights. With a full stomach we set off towards our next stop, the city of Gramado, during the path we take to sleep and after a very nice lunch on the road all agreed and spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying friends.
After arriving we went straight to the factory "Kingdom of Chocolate" where we discovered the history of chocolate and shopped many delights. We ended the day enjoying our hotel which is wonderful, a heated swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi. And finally a dinner with typical homemade food of southern Brazil.

29/03/16 - Gramado!

Neste belo dia todo o grupo acordou cedo e após colocar as malas no ônibus seguiu para o local do café da manhã para tomar mais um delicioso café da manhã, com frutas frescas, frios, diversos tipos de pães, sucos, bebidas quentes além de outras delícias. Com a barriga cheia partimos rumo a nossa próxima parada, a cidade de Gramado; durante o trajeto aproveitamos para dormir e após um almoço muito bom na estrada todos acordaram e passaram o resto da tarde curtindo os amigos.
Após chegar fomos direto para a fábrica “Reino do Chocolate” onde conhecemos a história do chocolate e fizemos compras de muitas delícias. Terminamos o dia curtindo o nosso hotel que é maravilhoso, tem piscina aquecida, sauna e jacuzzi. E para finalizar um jantar com comida caseira típica do sul do Brasil.

We love you Floripa! / Aficionado a Floripa!

03/28/2016 - We love you Floripa!

We spent a marvelous day on the island of Florianópolis. In the morning we went to a freshwater lagoon and went by boat to a Cachoeira, a fisherman’s village only reachable by water. It had beautifully colored houses, nature and bright blue water. We went to a small waterfall before lunch, some of the group went in the water, while others took pictures and talked. An hour was spent at the waterfall and then we walked down to a waterside restaurant. We were given a ton of food; salad, feijoada, pirão de pescado (a sort of think fish soup, amazing!), rice, french fries, shrimp and breaded chicken and fish with shrimp souce. After the feast, we returned by boat and almost everyone slept siesta. 
Everyone woke up to go to Joaquina beach. A group rented out boards for sandboarding and hiked up and rode down dunes that were nearly 50 meters high. The rest went to walk on the beach or go swimming in the really cold water. There were a lot of different activites going on but almost everyone finished their day at the beach eating açaí.
We arrived at the hotel and bought dinner at a local supermarket. Everyone finished dinner and the coordinators (Terra Brasil) put on a party for the exchange students with birthdays around this time. There was a lot of fruit, a DJ who put on great music and a beautiful cake for everyone. Everyone sang happy birthday in their own languages. After all of that dancing we all went to bed exhausted, knowing we had to get up early in the morning.

28/03/2016 - Aficionado a Floripa!

 

En el dia de hoy, un dia maravilloso, estuvimos en la isla de Florianopolis. En la mañana, fuimos a una laguna y tomamos un barco hasta Cachoeira, una villa de pescadores donde solo se puede llegar por agua. Tenía casitas coloradas, linda naturaleza y agua bien azul. Fuimos a unas cataratas antes del almuerzo. Algunos se metieron en el agua, otros sacaron fotos y los demás estaban descansando y hablando. Pasamos una hora allí y después bajamos para comer al lado de la laguna. El restaurante nos dio mucha comida; ensalada, feijoada, papas fritas, pirao dede pescado, farofa,camaron frito y milanesa de pollo o pescado con salsa de camaron. Volvimos en lancha y casi todos tomaron siesta.
Despertaron todos para ir a una playa que se llama Praia Joaquina. Algunos chicos alquilaron tablas para hacer sandboard, y subieron y bajaron dunas de 50 metros. La mayoría del grupo fue a la playa a caminar y meterse en el agua que estaba muy frio. Había una variedad de actividades pero casi todos terminaron su tiempo en la playa comiendo açai.
Llegamos al hotel y fuimos al supermercado para comprar la cena. Después de comer, los coordinadores (Terra Brasil) hicieron una fiesta para los cumpleañeros del viaje. Había mucha fruta, un DJ que puso buena música, y una torta muy rica para todos. Cantamos la canción del cumpleaños en nuestros propios idiomas. Después de mucha baile y fiesta nos fuimos a dormir porque tenemos que levantaros temprano.

Beto Carrero World!

03/27/16 - Beto Carrero World!

Our amazing day started from the city of Curitiba to our way to Beto Carrero World! The biggest amusement park in Latin America!
When we arrived to the park we saw a colorful castle where we took the first picture of our day! A nice thing about the park was that it had different thematic areas. It had exciting and enormous rides, and we went to see entertaining shows, for example one called "Fast and Furious", one called "Bloom" and "The Monga", this last one showed a woman become a gorilla and it was very scary! The day was very hot, therefore we enjoyed the water rides to refresh ourselves!
Finally, we left Beto Carrero at 6 o'clock in the afternoon to arrive to the beautiful city of Florianópolis, where we arrived to eat at a pizza place near the beach!

27/03/16 - Beto Carrero World!

Nosso maravilhoso dia começou saindo da cidade de Curitiba com destino ao Beto Carrero World! O maior parque de diversões da América Latina!
Ao chegar ao parque vimos um castelo colorido onde tiramos a nossa primeira foto do dia! O mais legal do parque é que havia diferentes áreas temáticas para aproveitar. Tinha diversas montanhas russas empolgantes e gigantescas, além disso a gente assistiu a shows de entretenimento tais como um show chamado "Velozes e Furiosos", um chamado "Bloom" e "A Monga" que mostrava uma mulher virando gorila e dava um medo terrível! O dia foi muito quente e aproveitamos os jogos de água para nos refrescar!
Finalmente, saímos do Beto Carrero às 6 da tarde para chegar a linda cidade de Florianópolis onde a gente comemos uma deliciosa pizza na beira da praia!

Curitiba!

03/26/16 - Curitiba!

After the long bus trip yesterday to Curitiba we were all excited to explore the city. Our day started with a breakfast buffet in our hotel. In a good mood we went to a botanic garden. The Europeans felt like home because of the structure and the clean park. A lot of people used the morning hours to relax or do exercises. Some of the motivated exchange students joined the morning yoga. With the bus we drove to a modern art museum in the city. We had a lot of fun (even if we couldn’t see the art in the art) and we ended up with a lot of crazy photos. Our local tour guide showed us a place influenced by the biggest polish colony. Over the Easter weekend they show their culture to the people. We had the possibility to see a polish dance in their traditional clothes.
21 starving exchange students plus coordination couldn’t wait to arrive at the biggest restaurant of Latin America. After one hour full of Italian food we rolled to another park where we had a nice view and everyone was in the “don’t worry be happy” mood.
The next stop was the opera house of Curitiba.
We finished the city tour in the beautiful centrum, that reminded a lot of Europe. On the way to the hotel we passed through an Easter market with a lot of handcraft. Unexpected Ron found his lost twin on the street and we arrived in the hotel.
After a bit time to relax we took diner in a shopping mall. The day ended with our organization meeting and we fall exhausted but waiting for the following day asleep.

 26/03/16 - Curitiba!

Depois e um dia longo no ônibus para Curitiba nos estávamos animados para conhecer a cidade. Nosso dia começou com um grande café de manha no hotel. Todo mundo muito feliz nós fomos para o jardim botânico. Os europeus se sentiram em casa por causa da estrutura e o parque limpo. Muitas pessoas usaram o parque para descansar ou fazer exercícios. Alguns intercambistas motivados fizeram yoga. Com o ônibus nós fomos para um museu de arte moderna na cidade. Nós nos divertimos muito (ainda que nós não  consigamos ver a arte na arte) e nos acabamos com fotos loucas. A nossa guia local mostrou um lugar influenciado por Poloneses - a maior colônia polonesa. No fim de semana de Páscoa eles mostram a cultura polonesa para o povo brasileiro. Nós tivemos a possibilidade de assistir uma apresentação de dança com roupas tradicionais.
21 intercambistas e a coordenação morrendo de fome não puderam esperar para chegar ao maior restaurante da América latina. Depois de uma hora cheio de comida italiana a gente foi embora para um outro parque aonde nós tivemos uma vista muito bonita e todo mundo bem feliz e animado com os passeios.
A próxima parada foi a ópera de Curitiba.
Nós acabamos o tour da cidade no centro maravilhoso que parece muito europeu. No caminho para o hotel a gente passou em uma feira de Páscoa com muito artesanato. Inesperado, o Ron achou o seu gêmeo perdido e a gente chegou no hotel.
Depois de um tempo de descanso nos jantamos no shopping. O dia terminou com a reunião e nós fomos dormir.

Foz do Iguaçu / Curitiba!

03/25/16 - Foz do Iguaçu / Curitiba!

Hello everybody! Today the group woke up early around 6:00am; we were all preparing the bus and had a delicious breakfast full of delights in the hotel. Then we left the marvelous city of Foz do Iguaçu towards Curitiba; we spent most of the day traveling and we got some sleep! In the afternoon much of the group was playing games and chatting besides listening to music and watching the video of our trip to Pantanal and Bonito 2015, the video was very good and was very exciting relive those days so awesome and the friends we made!
When we arrived in Curitiba all went to the hotel restaurant and had dinner - a delicious homemade food! New companions arrived and all took the night in the hotel game room - was a night full of joy and fun!

25/03/16 - Foz do Iguaçu / Curitiba!

Olá pessoal! No dia de hoje o grupo acordou bem cedo por volta de 6:00d manhã e fomos todos carregar o ônibus e tomar em seguida um delicioso café da manhã repleto de delícias em nosso hotel. Em seguida partimos da maravilhosa cidade de Foz do Iguaçu rumo a Curitiba; passamos a maior parte do dia viajando e aproveitamos para colocar o sono em dia! Na parte da tarde grande parte do grupo ficou jogando e conversando, além de escutar músicas e assistir ao vídeo de nossa viagem para Pantanal e Bonito 2015, o vídeo ficou muito bom e foi muito emocionante reviver aqueles dias tão incríveis e os amigos que tanto nos marcaram!

Ao chegar em Curitiba fomos todos ao restaurante do hotel e jantamos uma comida deliciosa. Chegaram novos companheiros e todos aproveitaram a noite na sala de jogos do hotel - foi uma noite de muita alegria e diversão!

Cataratas Argentinas!

Cataratas Argentinas - rain, movie, talent show and more!

Hello followers!
Today we split the group because some people couldn’t enter in Argentina, they had to pay a really expensive Visa to go.
The ones who stayed in Brazil went to the Marco das Três Fronteiras and a Buddha temple, which was really pretty and nice for the Taiwanese because they had the chance to speak with a few Taiwanese.
Because of a really heavy rain, we couldn´t visit the Parque das Aves so we went to a Shopping, actually just for eating but ended up in the cinema. YEEESS we already saw Batman vs. Superman. (Superman dies by the way, ups! Spoiler alert!).

The ones that could enter in Argentina started out early, to pass the border as smooth as possible. Unfortunately it was raining heavily when they arrived at the falls in Argentina, so they just saw the most important things, and the group chose to continue to Puerto Iguazu and shop souvenirs, and have a nice cup of coffee. After that they went back through the border, and took some time to shop in the enormous duty-free shop at the border.

When everybody arrived at the hotel we ate dinner and had an insane Talent Show, which included some songs, dances, a Harlem Shake and a lesson of Poland.

Cataratas Argentinas - chuva, filme, show de talentos e muito mais!

Oi galera!

Hoje nos separamos em grupos por que algumas pessoas não podiam entrar na Argentina.
As pessoas que ficaram no Brasil foram para Marco das Três Fronteiras e o Templo Budista, que foi muito bonito e legal para os Taiwaneses por que eles tiveram uma chance para conversar com alguns Taiwaneses.
Depois disso, e por causa de uma chuva muito forte eles foram para um shopping, na verdade só para comer e acabaram no cinema. Simmmm, nós já assistimos Batman vs. Superman.(Superman morre! Ups, spoiler alert!)

Para os que podiam entrar entrar na Argentina, o dia começou cedo, para passar a fronteira foi bem simples. Infelizmente quando nós chegamos choveu muito nas Cataratas da Argentina, então o grupo só viu as atrações mais importante e depois o grupo decidiu continuar para Puerto Iguazu e comprar lembranças e beber um pouco de café. Depois o grupo voltou na fronteira e foi para um duty-free muito grande para mais compras.

Quando todo mundo chegou no hotel, nós fomos jantar, e tivemos um Show de Talentos insano! Isso incluindo algumas músicas, danças, um Harlem Shake e uma aula sobre a Polônia.

Cataratas & Itaipu!

03/23/2016 - Cataratas & Itaipu!

Hello everyone, today we went to the Iguaçu National Park in Brazil falls. It was truly a breathtaking experience, especially when we take the motor boat to the middle of the falls. It was amazing, unforgettable and really wet... A few hours and thousands of photos later, we reached the place overlooking the cliff that are the falls. There we still took more pictures and got the expected lunch there we had the opportunity to see coatis. A little rushed left for Itaipú - joint project between Brazilians and Paraguayans. The work lasted for both countries almost 30 years to completer, the dam and the entire infrastructure. But now meets 80% of the energy needs of Paraguay and 15% in Brazil. Usually 3,400 employees work there daily and the site has been visited by over 20 million tourists. Very excited and a bit exhausted we returned to the hotel, but just to take a short break and went to a Barbecue and a dance show. Full of spirit and curiousity many young people decided to try new flavors and most of the group chose sushi as main course. At some point the lights were out and a Brazilian guy showed up from a hole in the roof to advertise the dance group "Latin American". During the next few hours they entertained the audience with the show from countries like Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Mexican dances. When the Samba team got called on stage one of our companions - Marcus is a "samba dancer" very promising (need to ask for pictures and video). Unfortunately his performace was one of the last so shortly after we returned to the hotel, we made a quick meeting and hope to have at least some sleep before our adventures in Argentina tomorrow.

23/03/2016 - Cataratas & Itaipu!

Olá a todos, hoje fomos para o Parque Nacional do Iguaçu nas Cataratas Brasileiras. Foi verdadeiramente uma experiência de tirar o fôlego, especialmente quando tomamos o barco a motor para o meio das cachoeiras. Foi incrível, inesquecível e úmido realmente... Poucas horas e milhares de fotos mais tarde, chegamos ao local com vista do precipício que são as cataratas. Lá nós tiramos ainda mais fotos e chegamos ao esperado almoço, lá tivemos a oportunidade de ver quatis. Um pouco apressados partimos para Itaipu - projeto comum entre Brasileiros e Paraguaios. O trabalho durou para ambos os países quase 30 anos para se completar a barragem e toda a infraestrutura. Mas agora atende 80% das necessidades de energia do Paraguai e 15% do Brasil. Normalmente 3400 empregados trabalham lá diariamente e o local foi visto por mais de 20 milhões de turistas. Muito animado e um pouco exaustos voltamos para o hotel, mas apenas para fazer uma pequena pausa e partimos para a Churrascaria e um show de dança. Cheios de espírito e curiosidade pela viagem muitos jovens resolveram tentar sabores novos e a maioria do grupo escolheu sushi como prato principal. Em algum ponto as luzes se apagaram e um Brasileiro apareceu a partir de um buraco no teto para anunciar o grupo de dança "latino-americano". Durante as últimas horas eles entreteriam o público com o show de países como Brasil, Paraguai, Uruguai, Argentina, Chile e danças mexicanas. Quando a equipe de Samba chegou chamou ao palco um dos nossos companheiros - Marcus é um "sambista" muito promissor (precisamos pedir fotos e vídeo). Infelizmente sua performance foi uma das últimas de modo que pouco depois voltamos para o hotel, fizemos uma rápida reunião e esperamos ter pelo menos um pouco de sono antes de nossas aventuras na Argentina amanhã.

03/22/16 - Paraguay

Hello everybody, today our group went to Paraguay to do some "power shopping". We started out at 8:30am with our general orientation, and after we went directly to Paraguay. We stayed the whole day in a shopping mall with all kinds of cheap electronics, perfumes, clothes and food which is always popular among exchange students. When we finished at the mall, we returned to our hotel in Brazil and chilled at the pool. At night we went to a pizza restaurant, and ate a lot of different pizzas including pizzas with ice-cream, chocolate and strawberry – everybody loved it!

22/03/16 - Paraguai

Olá pessoal, hoje o nosso grupo foi para o Paraguai para fazer algumas "super" compras. Nós começamos 8:30 da manhã com a nossa orientação geral, e depois fomos diretamente para o Paraguai. Nós ficamos o dia inteiro em um shopping center com todos os tipos de eletrônicos, perfumes, roupas e alimentos que é sempre popular entre os estudantes de intercâmbio. Quando terminamos no shopping, voltamos para nosso hotel no Brasil e nos refrescamos na piscina. A noite fomos a um restaurante de pizza, e comemos um monte de diferentes pizza , incluindo pizzas com sorvete, chocolate e morango - todo mundo adorou!

Started! / Começou!

Today is the start of the South American Adventure 2016! Exchange students living all over Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina are arriving in Foz do Iguaçu/PR to start the first section of our trip! Tomorrow, we will have the General Orientation of the trip in which all the rules will be presented. Then, we start our tours visiting Ciudad del Este at Paraguay!

Many adventures ahead! And more exchange students are expected to join us at the future sections – South of Brazil, Uruguay/Argentina, Mendoza/Santiago/Valparaíso/Viña and Atacama/Cusco/Machu Picchu!

Amanhã teremos a Orientação Geral da viagem, onde regras e dicas da viagem serão apresentadas; e depois damos início aos passeios seguindo para Ciudad del Este no Paraguai!
